Poem for Today, the most beautiful of Fall

i thank You God

e.e. cummings

i thank You God for most this amazing

day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees

and a blue true dream of sky;

and for everything

which is natural which is infinite

which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,

and this is the sun's birthday;

this is the birth

day of life and of love and wings:

and of the gay

great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing

breathing any-lifted from the no

of all nothing-human merely being

doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and

now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

may my heart always be open to little

birds who are the secrets of living

what ever they sing is better than to know

and if men should not hear them

men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry

and fearless and thirsty and supple

and even if it's sunday may i be wrong

for whenever men are right

they are not young

and may my self do nothing usefully

and love yourself so more than truly

there's never been

quite such a fool who could fail

pulling all the sky over him with one smile

love is more thicker than forget

more thinner than recall

more seldom than a wave is wet

more frequent than to fail

it is most mad and moonly

and less it shall unbe

than all the sea which only

is deeper than the sea

love is less always than to win

less never than alive

less bigger than the least begin

less littler than forgive

it is most sane and sunly

and more it connot die

than all the sky which only

is higher than the sky

DC Trip!!

Jonathan and I arrived last night in DC! Wahoo! We went to a contra dance where we happened to meet my good friend Alex! We're going to have dinner with him tonight. DC is so huge! And lit up! And the buildings are crazy! All the windows in Abby's house have bars on them like in Latin America. We drove down Mass Ave last night to get to her house and got to see all the embassys with carved elephants in front and huge ornate entry ways. There are even trees blooming! We're going to see all sort of wonderful sights today. Oh! And I got a view of the Capital building from Mass Ave too. It's huge! And all lit up as well. I am super excited to take the metro today. We're going to the Presidential Mall and are going to visit some museums. For free! Whee! And we get to be here until Tuesday which means we get to travel all around. I think I could live in DC quite happily for about 6 months or so and get to know all the nifty nooks and spiffy places and then I could happily go home to somewhere where there are wild trees and nights where you can see more than the major constellations. I'm super happy to be visiting and it's really nice to take a few days off of work.

Pictures to come!

Of dragons & princesses

Working alone through an afternoon of loud thunder and dealing with my own dragons, these two quotes found their way to me:

"Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are only princesses waiting for us to act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love..."
-Ranier Maria Rilke, Letter to a young poet

"Tradition says, 'Find out what you did wrong and never do it again.' New wisdon says, 'Find out what you did right, so you can be sure to do it again.'''
-Rashmi Koushik

Thanks world, for thunder and dragons and beauty; for words and love.

Aloft

I love it when I do something I've always wanted to do.
